SMS Usage Charging provides flexible options for charging SMS usage, allowing for both Online and Offline modes. The service supports all types of SMS, including SMS-MO (Mobile Originated) and SMS-MT (Mobile Terminated), in both home network and national/international roaming scenarios.

Key features of the SMS Usage Charging service include:

  1. Online and Offline Charging Modes: In Online mode, SMS usage can be charged using either Event Charging with Unit Reservation (ECUR) or Immediate Event Charging (IEC), depending on the configuration. This enables real-time charging and immediate deduction of SMS units from the subscriber’s balance. In Offline mode, SMS usage is charged using Immediate Event Charging (IEC). Offline mode is handy in scenarios where real-time charging is not available or necessary, such as in situations with limited network connectivity.

  2. Support for All SMS Types: The service supports SMS-MO (Mobile Originated) and SMS-MT (Mobile Terminated) messages, ensuring comprehensive coverage for both sending and receiving SMS in home network and national/international roaming scenarios.

  3. Charging for Long SMS: The service supports the charging of Long SMSes, which are SMS messages that exceed the standard character limit and are divided into multiple segments when sent through the Short Message Service Center (SMS-C). The charging mechanism considers the total number of segments to transmit the complete Long SMS, ensuring accurate billing for these extended messages.
